I am a former Medical Marijuana patient. Yes, there are differences. Most people will say not, except for the legality. Some people say that medical marijuana is a strain that produces a better high. Not so. Medical marijuana ALWAYS contains a high level of CBD and a lower or equal level of THC. For some patients the THC must be 0. Pain, cancer, MS patients require a high level of THC as well, but all Medical marijuana has high levels of CBD. 'Stoners weed' has little or no CBD, because CBD brings you down. Many marijuana patients have a compromised immune system. Marijuana naturally grows with mold, and has a lot of insects in it. Medical marijuana is grown in a controlled environment controlling mold and fungal growth, with no insects, and without pesticides, fungicides, or the use of chemicals that promote growth. I had used marijuana to control seizures in epilepsy (the docs had NO meds for me). In 2010 I was put on a new Rx drug and no longer need marijuana. I do not miss the high, I had to learn how to use marijuana without getting high. Before I learned how not to get stoned I got so high that I was unable to operate my vape. Marijuana DOES work. It works perfectly, it ends many problems that come along with epilepsy, and it also treats depression. Rx drugs have many side effects, but the CBD in marijuana have no side effects. Marijuana and Rx drugs work better together than either one alone.

In terms of chemical make up, they are the same thing. The only difference is legality.
