How should United Methodists who support equal marriage respond to this defrocking of a minister?
The minister in question officiated at the marriage of his son to his same-sex spouse. In response, the United Methodist Church is defrocking the minister.
Even the Catholics don't go that far! (Not that there are a lot of admitted fathers among the Catholic clergy.)
Should Methodists who support equal marriage rights respond? Should they symbolically "defrock the church" by refusing their financial support until principled dissent is not so harshly dealt with? What other responses would make sense to you?

The church is abiding by their rules. While i don't personally like the rule, it is hard to argue against it given the teachings of the bible. I would prefer a church that stands by its rules and enforces them, if they all did perhaps there would be less child molestation.
It's members who wish to see change should write letters to the leadership so they are aware of the views of their members. Issues such as these do not change overnight in society, let alone the church which is even slower to adapt.
The church is doing this not because of what you say but because he won't agree to not officiate anymore marriages. They've let him off and just asked him to give his word to not do it again and he won't agree. lol

You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Catholic church doesn't officiate gay marriages, considering you need to take 6 months of marriage classes and be in good standing to even get married in the church.
The Methodist minister broke his vows that he will defend the faith and lied that he accepts all the doctrines of the faith, thus a liar and an oath breaker, thus cannot be trusted. He basically broke his contract and any company would have fired him under those terms.

The best way LGBT supporters can convince everyone else is thru mass self-immolation. When we see you're all gone, we'll change our views. Promise.
