Did God believe that his admonition to avoid the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would be sufficient?

If so, why was he mistaken?

If not, why did he set Adam and Eve up like that?

It was entrapment, pure and simple....

The bigger question is: 'Why would God not want His creation to have knowledge of good and evil?

It might turn out to be a useful survival skill....

God knows everything. When He made Adam and Eve He knew they would be disobedient. But He made them perfect, with the power of choice, just like He made all the other worlds spoken of in the Bible. Only the inhabitants of those other worlds have chosen not to sin.

Why did God make the people on our world, knowing that they would sin? We can only imagine. The most fitting reason I can think of is that God values the power of choice above all. Before our world was created, He was obeyed by the universe but nobody really understood what good and evil were, since there had never been evil. God had a plan in place, a safety net, so that when our world succumbed to sin (as He knew it would) He could save us. And the whole universe could see the powerful and negative effects of disobeying God.

When all of this is over, sin "will not rise up a second time". The whole universe will obey God willingly, with love and full understanding of what they are choosing between. Nobody will ever choose to disobey again, because the tragic effects of sin will be imprinted on the minds of all, as well as on our Savior's hands, forever.

All we have to go on are a few old myths and tales. And only one short life to study enough to understand the information we have now related to the understanding of the material things that have gone on, hoping one day to finally reveal to us what exactly did happen back then. And if we don't come up with an answer in this one short life we just leave the information for the next generation to try to do the same thing with it. I think we are making progress but still have a long way to go to knowing with certainty why we are the only animals in existence (so) far that do what we do.

  • Perhaps he ISN'T really 'all knowing' after all in which case he is imperfect & not a real god. A real god would be REALLY 'all knowing' i.e. about ALL things: the past, the present AND the future. If God is said to be truly ALL knowing then yes he must have set up Adam & Eve because they cannot have ANY freewill - they were bound to behave EXACTLY as God foresaw i.e. decreed.

    It was a test.

All Adam and Eve had to do is to believe God.

In the end, Eve decided that God had lied to her. And Satan was telling her the truth. And that is when mankind fell under the curse of sin.

People for centuries have wondered, speculated, and debated why God allowed this sin to occur.

All we know for sure is that we do not fully understand the mind of God. Our brains are too tiny. God is infinite.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord." (Isaiah 55:8)

I think God knew all along what would happen. And the dramatic way he does things leads me to believe that he likes the drama.

Sinners always seek to blame others for their sin as you also seek to blame God for your own sin.

Have you ever told a woman "Don't do this" and had her obey you?
