So I've recently learned that I've been living in chocolate ingnorance?

I'm American and didn't think that there was much difference between Hershey's and other chocolates. I never noticed any "tangy" aftertaste or anything, but everyone online seems to be saying how awful it is compared to European chocolates. What is a good brand name to try for comparison?

Try to compare between Toblerone /Lindt (European) with Godiva or giradelli chocolate even with Dove (US) you can taste the big difference '

Try some Swiss chocolate for comparison (Milka,Lindt etc)

If you want to try English chocolate the standard brand of everyday chocolate is Cadbury's (for both milk and plain). A quiet upmarket one is Green and Blacks which is organic

Another very European one is Nestle

Where you can get them in the US I don't know.

I live in the UK (near a USAF base) so we get quite a lot of Hershey's around here. I won't say I dislike it but it is quite a different taste.

There is a big difference. I'm Canadian and grew up on Neilsen's Jersey Milk bars, and Cadbury's, instead of Hershey's. I don't like Hershey's at all. You might not find a Jersey Milk bar in your local stores, but you may find Cadbury's. It's a UK brand. There is Lindt chocolate. There is Toblerone, it its distinctive triangular box.

I am in the US and we have Lindt and Nestle.

Nestle has been here since the 1800's.

Lindt has a factory in New Hamshire US

I don't think it makes a difference as to company names but I think that the US chocolate, even made by Nestle or Lindt is still different.

I have had some German chocolate and it is very different as well.
