If you aren't getting your studies done alone and your parents are unable or unwilling to help you, you should return to public school. Perhaps you can take a bunch of 1 semester classes then do a full year starting in fall. You will still be a semester behind in total credits, but not a full year that way. Perhaps you could also make up credits doing summer school. Talk to the school counselor and see what they recommend. Otherwise, you will have to ignore your feelings and just buckle down and get busy studying at home until you get caught up. Talk to your mom and explain the problems and frustration you are having by not having her help you. She is legally obligated to insure you are getting an education. That does not just mean providing books, but she needs to make sure you are learning too if you homeschool

It depends on which state, but I don't think he'd be homeschooled right now if he was THAT far behind. Usually you've got to submit test scores to the school board. And besides, if he's 6 years behind on school work, what has he been doing all this time?

If you go back to public school, you will likely end up failing the 11th grade. You've missed out on half the school year, there's no way you could pass.

At your age you should be capable of working independently. Unfortunately there are so many distractions for kids left to do their studies online at home alone.

Talk to your mom, tell her what is going on. If you are really homeschooled, your mom will be able to choose a different curriculum that's more suited to your learning style. If you attend an online public school, you should consider homeschooling.

It sounds like maybe Mom bought curriculum that you weren't ready for. And with her not being there, it just makes it doubly difficult for you.

You can always go back to public school. Where they will place you is up to them, but it sounds like you need help getting caught up so don't be too negative towards remedial classes. Don't worry what anyone will think, worry about learning what you need to know to take care of yourself.

It would help to know what materials your mom bought and what YOU would like to learn about. A curriculum should be built around the student, not try and fit the student into the curriculum. It's a common mistake with new homeschoolers, they just figure they should continue like public school without recognizing that the public school model is failing a lot of young people.

You might try looking into the Barron's Easy Way series. We used several of them and they are very good for older students. They start out easy and gradually build your skills. And they are designed for self-teaching. You can find them in any book store or Amazon, etc. Just go to Amazon and type in " Barrons the easy way" and they will pop up. Most are under $20.

To make a curriculum that fits you, make a list of the basics (English, math, history, etc) then add the things you know you need help with and then a few subjects you want to learn about (electronics, music, forensics, etc). You should also look at the career preparation books in the book store. Maybe you have an interest in becoming a police officer or something in the healthcare field. If it looks interesting, learn about it. It may turn out to be something you know you would never want to do, but you may find something that interests you. It helps learning when you are interested. .

Schools are very good at teaching you how to sit and wait for something to happen, what you need to do is learn how to make it happen. My guess is school didn't teach you how to learn and now you are floundering because you do not know how to learn. It looks like Amazon has a few books on that topic, too.

But you can either go back to public school or you can homeschool. You are old enough to take responsibility for your education. You (and Mom) might like Grace Llewellyn's book, The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education.

Whatever you choose I wish you well. If you have any more question, do not hesitate to stop back here and ask.

i think you should go back because it is easier. For example; if you don't understand a subject and someone those like a friend . He can explain it to you. if you are on your own it is difficult to understand every subject. so what if you are few months behind you are still young. they are older people in their 40's who are even going back to school.
