How to get your California's Drivers Liscense when you're under 18?
I'm 16 years old, turning 17 in March. Not really close to 18 years old yet. I need a simple explanation, step by step instruction on how to get my driver's license. Contradict me if I'm wrong but I think this is how it goes for someone my age.
-Take Online Drivers Ed Course to get Permit
-Take Written test, Pass, then I get my official Permit
-While holding my official Permit for 9 months, I will have to pay $200-$300 for a behind-the-wheel course with a certified driving instructor that I will have to pass at a "driving school".
-Once I have attained the hours needed with this trainer, I take another test for my license. I take other tests, like a vision test and some written test etc.
-then I get my license

Go to the California DMV web site and read what it says. I looked it up a few weeks ago for someone
else and that didn't sound anything like what i read. If you take and pass drivers ed class not sure if
it can be a online class. If you pass the class you can get a unrestricted license sooner than if you do
not take the course. You would have a restricted license until 18.

You can take a driver education course online:

From the California DMV site:
How to apply for a provisional permit if you are under 18
To apply for a provisional permit, you will need the following:
Be at least 15 ½, but under 18 years of age
Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service)
Complete the application form DL 44 (An original DL 44 form must be submitted. Copies obtained by xeroxing, faxing, or other methods will not be accepted.)
Have your parents’ or guardians’ signatures on the application form DL 44
Provide your social security number. It will be verified with the Social Security Administration while you are in the office.
“Provide your true full name if your name no longer matches the name on your birth date legal presence document.”
Verify your birth date and legal presence
Submit the proper form(s) for driver education and/or driver training classes (See below for details.)
Give a fingerprint
Pay the application fee (This fee entitles you to three exams of any type within the 12–month period and pays for both the instruction permit and the driver license. If all requirements are not met within the 12–month period, the application becomes void and all steps must be completed again.)
Pass a vision exam
Give your fingerprint again, provide your signature (that will appear on the driver license), and have your picture taken.
Pass a traffic laws and sign test. There are 46 questions on the test. A passing score is at least 38 correct answers. You have three chances to pass the test. If you fail, you must wait 7 days before taking it again.

You are largely correct, but you don'y have to pay that much $200-300 is a high sum of money knowing there are cheaper ways to get that driver license out there !
Anyway, once you go to an authorized driving school they will teach you all the steps you need to take !

According to this website http://www.govdmv.org/CaliforniaDriverLicense , you need to wait 6 months not 9.
