Nice. Demand an explanation then add a disclaimer that atheists cannot use the most prevalent explanation there is.

    Hopeless.

    I don't.

In the PAST? A few Christians are managing to force their especially narrow-minded, twisted versions of religion on everyone else NOW. It's not in the PAST.

I guess you have NO grasp of anything that's going on, do you?

I'm not offended that you believe in imaginary beings. I consider you wrong, in a factual sense -- the beings you believe exist don't.

So if you live and let live, and you don't elect theocrats, and don't try to prevent young people from learning science, then I have no problem with you.

It's a lie that all atheists pick on all Christians. Most atheists spend most of our time on other things.

BUT, when wing-nuts insist that no woman has any rights, or some adults not be allowed to create their own families; or students be taught myths as though those myths were science, then they are doing HARM to others, and I have to speak out against them.

Do YOU think I should let lunatics destroy people's lives, without opposition?

When I was in the Navy, my home was picketed and my wife and baby son's lives were threatened by Christians that objected to my running a private invitation only computer bulletin board service.

When I was elected to my city council last year, the state attempted to enforce the laws which claim one must be a Christian to hold an office of public trust in violation of the US Constitution. When I noted to the city attorney that I intended to bring a suit against my state, it passed a resolution allowing for "affirmations of office" to moot my case.

I have been denied work, ejected from rented housing, and turned away from businesses such as restaurants for what I don't believe about your religion.

I am required to use money with an affirmation of faith on it placed there in 1955 in an anti-Communism stunt, and recite a Pledge written by a Baptist minister that did not have "under God" in it until Catholics forced the issue in 1955 as well. I had to relearn the Pledge. I carry a 1950 $10 bill to show folk who question that no, in fact In God We Trust is not traditional.

Christmas as a public holiday is only from the latter part of the XIX Century. The first US Congress met on Christmas Day in 1789, It was illegal to celebrate Christmas in most of the American colonies and later, states.

Christians, why do you pick on atheists?

    Same reason.

I don't know any atheist who is offended by people believing. And I wouldn't use the term offended, but it gets on my nerves when people call myth fact, and tell others that there's something wrong with them for not believing.

And you may not think there isn't persecution against atheists left, but there are. At least in the south. I was kicked out of a church for saying I wasn't sure if a god existed, and I've had people, inappropriately ask me if I believed in god, and if I said no, they'd insult me directly to my face and call me an asshole.

Now I'm not going to victimize myself, because it's a lot better than it use to be, but because we have to live with such a stigma that can result in even our own families rejecting us for not believing in their myths, you have no right to say we aren't oppressed.

  • I expect you already know the answer the atheists do indeed think they have themselves decided to troll online to annoy us. When in fact we know it is either the spirit of anti Christ or the spirit of the age they are almost compelled to do it. Let us agree together to dwell on the good news that through our witness on here some will be saved and rewarded and blessed by the acceptance of Jesus Christ and Saviour and Lord and the turning away from their sin which would include the mockery of God and of course us. However when we consider the plight of the persecuted church in Sudan Iraq Iran India even Israel etc etc it's a mere nuscience isn't it and we have so much

It's interesting isn't it. You've lost the argument over facts, so now you play the victim card. I actually think that Islam is a much greater threat to our liberties that Christianity. But I pick on Christianity more on Y/A because almost all of the questions relate to Christianity!

We cannot let religious fundamentalists spread their delusions without offering an opposite view.

If you consider this 'picking on', that is your definition, We like to consider this a perfectly reasonable alternate view.

I am not offended by your belief if you keep them to yourself, I am offended that some would dismiss scientific facts and even oppose their teaching.

Ah,, Does it hurt to have your belief defined for what it is, a belief, to have others point out that many "want to be" Christians strive to villainies, discredit and other wise bare false witness on that which they know little if anything about. You know those who think they know their gods mind so well that "they" have the right to determine who is hell bound and who is not.

Your last line is based in ignorance and desperation for slavery is not still being practiced in the US but the idiocy and bigotry of want to be Christians is.

    Try again.

  • Because Christianity is the religion of most western countries where the majority of atheists live.

I'm not offended that you believe in nonsense any more than I wouldn't be offended that a schizophrenic believes aliens are talking to them through a lamp post.

What bothers me is when you try to force your beliefs on others. When government endorses your religion over others by putting up nativity scenes on public property. That people who love each other can't get married just because they happen to be of the same gender. That people can't get birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies because it goes against your religion.

    That bothers me.
