Why is my hair becoming so drastically thin?

I am 18 years old and left for college in the fall. Ive always had thick hair since i was younger, and went through a phase where i dyed it quite a few times which completely friend my hair. Even with that it still took anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to straighten my hair. Because my hair was so dead i started using many different products that contained keratin that i would put in my hair after the shower to try and fix what i had done. The current product i am using is BB mending complex for truly damaged hair and its a leave in creme. I have…. well i used to have curly and thick hair. And from the time i entered college in the fall to now when i am home for winter break my hair is still dead but isn't as worse as it used to be. But it now only takes me about 15 minutes to straighten my hair. Also i lose an unhealthy amount of hair on a daily basis. Especially if i keep my hair up either in a bun or ponytail for a day or so and then hop in the shower, i literally pull multiple large clumps of hair out. The last thing is used to be able to go two to three days without washing my hair before it got greasy and now I'm lucky if i can go two. Although i am kind of grateful for a lighter load with my hair, i am just worried that this hair loss problem is going to be a continuing thing. If anyone has a similar situation or has any advice or insight it would be much appreciated. Sorry this is so long btw, and thank you !

Hair products are NOT made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged, or hair loss, or make them grow . . . . they are a trillion dollar business. They also do NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals - hair's worst enemies. • Hair products may claim one or more benefits, but usually they do not have scientific base.

"No hair product can change the hair's biology," says Eric Bone, senior VP of global research and innovation @ L'Oreal USA. "Products that 'repair' them are like glue used to put a broken vase back together. At the end of the day, it's still broke," says dermatologist Paul J. McAndrews, MD, a clinical professor @ the University of Southern California School of Medicine. "Overall, products are a temporary fix, although some can help prevent damage. But your best bet is really to stop damaging hair, period."

Example 1: "Hello, my hair is bleached and I've colored it alot in the past.

I haven't retouched my bleached hair in a month or two and my hair is Constantly breaking off!!! I'm losing SOOO much hair!!! Especially in the middle of my hairline

Ive been using Moroccan oil conditioner, olive oil masks and my hair is still breaking off! PLEASE HELP ME."

Vidal Sassoon's brand was applied to shampoos and conditioners sold worldwide, with a commercial campaign featuring the iconic slogan in the 70's: "If you don't look good, we don't look good." He once said: "there's more money in the hair products than hairstyling".

Example from Craigslist FREE Offer: "Various hair and body items that I have used very little of each one. They are all excellent products but just do not work with my hair."

"Overloading the hair doesn't give better results. If you need more than more than 2-3 styling products, you're probably using the wrong ones." Hollywood's most admired heads of hair - Sarah Jessica Parker, Julianne Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively, & Julia Roberts - said superstylist Serge Normant of NY & L.A. salons.

    AND this is why:

Traction alopecia is hair loss that occurs as a result of continuous pulling of the hair. Pulling may occur from hairstyles such as tight cornrows, plaits or braids with or without extensions, weaves, ponytails or even hair rollers or curlers. Natural hairstyles can also lead to traction alopecia as well. Long heavy locks and tightly coiled twists can lead to traction alopecia. The hair loss associated with traction alopecia typically occurs at the frontal hairline, at the temples or the area of the scalp above the ears. It may also occur at the posterior hairline.http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=aaplw&p...

Because that's what it usually does, once your hair has decided it's going to fall out.... . It's better you get over the shock now, as it will provide you with ample time go out and choose the wigs you will soon be wearing... . . Trying to prevent this from occurring--especially if you don't know what you're doing--will quite possibly bring additional biological maladies upon you.

Source(s): They say there's a reason for all ideas and inventions, and this is probably the biggest reason for the development of wigs. . So maybe you should just count your blessings
