To a point a hot engine is more efficient. Several factors can make an engine run warm such as lean burn, timing issues and coolant restrictions. The one thing you need to check before getting into the engine or anything else is the system that turns on the radiator fans! Relay, sensor, fuse and fan motors. There is no reason to replace a radiator if the problem is a 20 dollar relay or a 1 dollar fuse.

if we are running lean or have chipped/upgraded engine we may need better engine cooling. check thermostat first is it correct range? operating fully? check water pump drive belt is good and not slipping. check water flow across header tank.

if we can find no issues.. we may want to think about swapping rad to a heavy duty version. may be an idea to have diagnostic check run to see if we are burning fuel correctly etc.
