Only way to know is by checking it by ourselves. But if someone gives reference on tv in front of millions, then its a safe bet that he is talking truth

I wouldn't say he is lying without actually speaking to him about his motives.
But what he says is wrong.
If he knew it was wrong when he said it, then he's lying. If not, then he's just mistaken.
