Why is Golden Corral charging dinner prices for lunch and no senior discount this Christmas?

I went to Golden Corral for lunch today and took my wife and 2 friends with me. After waiting 15 minutes to get in I was told at the cash register that my bill (which was almost twice what it should have been) was so high because they weren't giving the senior discount and were charging evening prices all day. Is Christmas Day also Screw Your Customers Day?

I can't speak for the Senior Discount, but the reason the lunch price was the same as the dinner prices was probably due to the menu being served. Since it was Christmas Day, chances are that they had some special menu items on buffet line. The dinner prices were probably also increased accordingly. If they had special items, then their cost went up as well.

I live in Las Vegas, which is well known for their buffets. On holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years' Eve, most buffets offer a more gourmet menu than their everyday fare. Instead of normal carve prime rib, ham or turkey, the will add lamb, goose or duck, oysters and more seafood choices than typically available. These premium dishes increase the cost of the dinner, and therefore the price. Both the lunch (if offered) and dinner prices go up accordingly.

You'll have to ask the manager about the Senior discount, but I am pretty sure that that is what they will tell you about the lunch/dinner pricing.

It's a simple matter of charging what the market will bear. Senior discounts and such are meant to induce traffic during otherwise slow business activity times--and people will be prone to become repeats. However, you did not mention the heavy Christmas business volume even in spite of the non-discounted--the evening and weekend/holiday prices? It might seem anticlimactic but, high restaurant demand isn't so much about hunger as it is about "nothing to do." Imagine the complaints had your Corral remained closed, forcing you and other customers, each of you to fend for yourselves. It would be: Please, charge us more. Just bring the food. The thing to bear in mind is, when discounts do not benefit the seller, neither do they benefit the buyer. So engorge in the knowledge that "all are being 'cheated' equitably."

Chill out dude, since not all restaurants are open on Christmas, they charge dinner prices, just like ALL the Chinese buffets do on Sundays and "HOLIDAY's".

If you don't approve, then go elsewhere, but with the huge Christmas crowds, they won't miss your business. You could stay home and cook your own food if money is that tight.

Try to dig deep for your Christmas spirit, Happy Holidays dude.

It's Christmas DINNER, not Christmas LUNCH . . . don't know about the Senior Discount, though.

It's Christmas day and you're whining over being charged regular prices when someone else had to work to take care of you?

bring this to the attention of CORPORATE office. I believe each restaurant is a franchise, and therefore can probably do this as the owner decides. However, one doing so really casts a bad shadow on all the others who do not do this, and when publicity arises, and you should definitely let the local press know what the owner of this particular store did to you if corporate is unwilling to straighten it out.
