The affordable care act and how it will affect me?

I've been disabled since 2006, traumatic back injury. Since that time I've been on medicare but I only carry Part A, does the ACA require me to upgrade my coverage?

Does Medicare coverage meet the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that all Americans have health insurance?

If you have Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance), you’re considered covered and won’t need a Marketplace plan. Having Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) alone doesn’t meet this requirement.

No Medicaid if you refuse Medicare B.

If you have been without Medicare B this long, it is going to be very expensive - penalty charges.

If you don't have other coverage like VA - you will have problems.

if you are happy with some replacement for Medicare B, you should be okay.

No but doesn't your traumatic back injury require a lot of outpatient health services (doctors and facilities). If so, how do you pay for them now? Are you pretty sure you will not get sick or injured in some other way? Or are you leaving out something (such as you get VA)?

(The whole answer elsewhere in this thread about "reapplying" does not make sense relative to Medicare.)

The rules change January 1. Reapply and see what is covered. It could go either way; after all, no one knows what is hiding in the 1,200 page bill that no one read. Get this: Obama's deadline past this last Monday, December 23. How many people applied (like I did) for Medicaid under the old rules and will get turned down only to have to reapply a month later? (or get discouraged and spend ridiculous amounts to get insurance on the outside?) Slightly off subject: there is a miracle cure for soft connective tissue (back) injuries. Go to your health food store and buy a bottle of shark cartilage capsules. You will be healed.

If it doesn`t you should get a supplement and part b. Unless you like paying for you own care.
