How can I get my 15 year old cat to eat more?
My 15 year old cat recently stopped eating much. Actually most of her life she was overweight and shed hair like no tomorrow. Almost overnight she stopped eating much and after a bath she stopped shedding hair. The vet said she is just old. We did blood test and found a elevated white blood count so gave her anti-biotic just to be safe. She is not in any discomfort and gets around alright for her age
I wish I could find a way to get her to eat a little more as she is getting to be skin and bones. I know the end is sooner than later so lets not talk about it is time to say good bye because I will know when that time comes as I have been there before. I have been adding some oil to her food and it helps a little but not much. Any suggestions on how to increase her appetite or fortify her food to get her to eat more.
Thank you

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY CAT. My cat is around 9 which isn't young but not too old. He slowly stopped eating. He used to shed all the time and was fat, but he stopped shedding and got really skinny. We figured out it was his food. I guess he just got older and didn't want to eat it anymore, so before you try anything serious and waste money, try buying different food.
Mine eats the kind in a blue can called 9lives chicken % tuna. Its easer for him to eat and he loves it. He didn't gain all the weight back, but is at a healthy weight now.

Do you feed her canned food? If not, I think it is a good idea that you do, because it is more appealing. Also, you can sprinkle cheese on the food. Another strategy that works for increasing a cats appetite is warming the food slightly, so it almost 'matches' the body temperature of the cat.
If none of this works, I suggest taking her to another vet. There has to be a reason for this, and I don't think it's because she is old.
Good Luck

Ask the vet whether it's possible she's hyperthyroid. Also did the vet say whether her kidney function is normal or not? Hyperthyroidism and kidney failure are two common conditions in old cats and both can be treated and life prolonged comfortably.

There are cat foods for older cats that have more nutrition per bite. I agree with Universal Whisperer about checking for hyperthyroid, which is common & easily treatable in older cats.

feed her Halo cat food. Petco has it. You will see a big difference in less than a week.
