As a girl, I would love it if a guy texted me first! It seems like she likes talking to u, if not she would come up with some excuse to not talk. So sure! Text her first. And the more you talk, the closer you will get and then maybe she'll feel comfortable enough to text you first :)

Texting gets so dry after a while. You should be meeting up with her regularly instead of texting her regularly. It makes things so much easier.
