dancing as an exercise, good or bad idea for weight loss?

does 30 minutes of intense dancing session daily equals a cardio session of same duration? or is it a bad idea for weight loss?

    30 minutes of ANYTHING isn't enough to have much effect on your weight. You should be aiming for at least an hour. Dancing, even 'intense' dancing is farther down the list than you'd like to think.

    Most people underestimate their food intake, and overestimate the impact of their exercise.

    The best exercises for weight loss purposes, in descending order of calories burned per hour:

    1. cross country ski

    2. run

    3. bike

    4. swim (laps, not putzing around)

    Just start exercising by going on walks throughout your neighborhood! Try to walk like 2 miles a day. Measure it out with your car first so you know how long it is or just try for an hour of walking. Also eat healthy! Minimal processed foods (anything in a box). Lots of veggies and fruits, preferably fresh. Lean meats like grilled chicken or fish. Carbs are ok, just stick to whole wheat. Like whole wheat pasta. Or whole wheat bread if you want a sandwich. Eat 3 regular meals with good snacks in between. Nonfat Greek yogurt is amazing, really low in calories and high in protein. A handful of almonds is good too. Or an apple with a little peanut butter. Finally, ONLY drink water. If you drink coffee, stick to skim milk and no sugar, or if you must 2 packets. (no artificial sweetners). you'll be surprised if you just make some basic changes in lifestyle that you'll start losing weight... you'll also feel a million times better and healthier pretty much right away which will give you motivation.
