Why are so many people saying that NASA is working on a warp drive?
...a warp drive that could travel to Alpha Centauri in two week or something like that. I know what is a warp drive but how is it possible? We don't even know if negative mass exist. If they were really working on a warp drive, maybe they would start with something like finding negative mass and a way to produce a huge amount of energy.

They have the White-Juday Interferometer project which measures distance with extreme precision. They are hoping to be able to measure the expansion and contraction of space on a subatomic level. A warp field would require the control of such effects but unless we can measure them, the concept of a warp drive may only be on paper. It is in trying to explain this experiment to an ignorant public through an ignorant press motivated by sensationalism that this becomes referred to as working on a warp drive.

NASA and other places are working on propulsion systems. None of them are "warp drives" -- that's a science fiction speculation that allows for a reasonable time frame in getting from one star system to another. It's not likely that anyone with today's science knowledge and theory will find a way to go FTL.
However. there are a number of proposals that would non-reactive mass engines that generate a steady rate of acceleration (about 1/10 of our gravity) that would get a shuttle to Mars in about two weeks... The problem is that the proposed engines are not strong enough to get a shuttle or other craft off the Earth to get into orbit.
Sorry, no FTL in the foreseeable future

Who is saying this? Do you have any links? I keep up to date on most sources of astronomy and space news, but I have not heard any speculation that NASA is working on a warp drive. Especially since there is no physics which suggests that a warp drive is even possible.

there maybe some little projects it doesn't mean that everybody is working on the same thing .NASA is a big org with thousands of scientist .so i guess if one or two is interested doing something difference for deep space mission then giving a little budget for them isn't an issue for NASA .sometime to prove something wrong you have to go through the process otherwise just wondering about theory won't take you anywhere

Just because they may be working on one, doesn't mean that they're close to getting one. They have several projects for high-speed propulsion going on at the same time, like ion engines, nuclear rockets, etc. This may be one of their furthest off projects.

Yes,Nasa is working on a Warp Drive. Its absolutely possible. We will have it in next century.

B/c they have been for the past 50 years or so.
