It's all pretty basic, after knowing how to run a freshwater, just a few differences.

As any aquarium, the bigger the better. This leaves you more room for error.

Now, instead of one filter to power the aquarium, or one heater, get several smaller ones a third to a fourth the size you need, and have one more than you need. It can be more expensive, but definitely what you want. If anything happens to one, you've still got it going. Also, cycle your water 6-8 weeks.

Make sure you have pH testing and salt testing kits around, you'll use them pretty much twice weekly, if not more. Salt water fish are more unstable than freshwater.

Add live rock, which you can get at most local fish stores, two to three Weeks into the cycling.

Last, add fish 2-3 at a time and start small. As you will know from freshwater aquariums, you can't add lots of fish until you know you can sustain them.
