Gluten free foods as an alternative to foods with gluten? Are they healthier? Does anyone know?

Ok I know what gluten is and I know how some people cant digest gluten. I was just wondering is it a more healthy for you to eat gluten free foods?! The gluten free foods can be more expensive but I really want to eat healthier this year and ive tasted them and they dont taste too bad. Are there any other advantages to eating them? I dont think I have an intolerance to it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)))

Personally, I have to be on a gluten free diet because I have celiac disease. While gluten free is healther to me because of this disease, I don't advise people who can eat gluten to avoid it. The problem is many of the gluten free products are not only more expensive, but because they can't contain gluten or wheat, they use less healthy ingredients. There is often higher amounts of sugar, for example, and the prepackaged snacks and products are often higher in calories than their gluten-filled counterparts. For these reasons, I don't consider gluten free as a healthier diet for those who can eat gluten.

Personally I haven't tried it, but some friends of mine have and they are finding that it sits lighter with them and have a better digestion. None of them is allergic to gluten. You can try it for a couple of weeks to see how you feel

Theoretically, it will not make any difference to your diet, as it does not necessarily mean healthier food or less calories. You will not lose any nutrients if you make the change either.

I wouldn't be going for it, unless there is a medical condition involved. I would recommend whole wheat bread/ rice/ pasta instead
