What technology has been most important to the growth of the global economy in the last 20 years?

Heilbroner, R. & Milberg. W, has suggested that, the two most important technological advances in the last 20 or 40 years is in the areas of communication and transportation. As technology increases, so does our human thirst for knowledge and convenience. In my personal opinion, the "World Wide Web" (Internet), is one of the most influential inventions for the last 20 years. That being said the invention of the computer is also another invention that has and will affect economy for the next the 40 years and future years to come.

Why? I believe the future is coming fast and our global reach expands everyday as humans across the globe become more familiar with the internet. I think we are living in our own Industrial Revolution! The creation of the internet and computer has and will change the way every country operates, especially in the areas of communication and transportation! Share your thoughts here or

I'd have to disagree, 2 very basic products have been key in the growing economy, and still yield the most power.

Oil, there's never been more oil-wealth, and it's quickly becoming THE power-tool in industry.

And Mass-Production, Chinese Factory work is still massive.

Innovation, and Communication are some promising factors, but nowhere near big enough to move past the classics.
