Rock music and the Bible?
My Pastor says you shouldn't listen to Rock music. Its a Baptist church. Does the Bible actually say this?? I see nothing wrong with any music.

Music, ANY kind of music is just sounds arranged in an order and in patterns to please human ears.
There is nothing inherently "evil" in any kind of music.
The LYRICS of some rock, country, blues, pop, etc. songs though may violate the rules of some religions.
Look at the history of gospel music and later, Contemporary Christian music- there is no original "Christian"style of music, Christianity has always borrowed the popular music of the day and Christianized them with religious lyrics.
Centuries ago classical music had lyrics added to make the first hymns and religious songs, then nascent blues and country music was modified into gospel music, then later in the 60's, Christianity started borrowing from pop and rock music creating CCM music (See Mind Garage, 1968 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_Garage)
Finally, today there is hardly a style of music that hasn't been appropriated for religious use- rap, metal, hardcore, bluegrass, reggae, etc.
So, no, your pastor is wrong, he just doesn't have the perspective of knowing about the development of music.
Probably back in his youth, people were saying some gospel music was bad because it has a beat to it.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say Rock music, Metal, Video Games, or any other media outlet violates God's law. It does say, however, to guard your heart above all else, for everything you do flows from it. (Proverbs 4:23). In other words, if it's not harming you spiritually or inhibiting your relationship with Christ, go for it.

There IS ROCK MUSIC IN THE BIBLE!
Cornelius was the leader of the band! See Acts 10:1
Look, whether it is rock music, country music, eating bacon, playing cards, watching R rated movies or you can fill in the blank, those can be detrimental to you, or not. IF it causes you to lose your faith, it shouldn't be done. If your doing it causes someone else to lose their faith, you should look at that also.
Many have told me, "Jesus hung around with sinners and prostitutes" to which I always reply, "I am not Jesus! are you?"

They Bible couldn't talk about rock music. Rock wasn't around when the Bible was written.
Anyway, your problem is that you're a Baptist. Baptists are notoriously "anti anything fun."

Are you serious? Asking if there's any reference to rock music in the Bible?
Yet another example of the gullibility of believers.

Indeed, Apostle Simon Peter is "The Rock" - the bible is almost saying that listening to rock is compulsory.

It depends upon the type of music and the lyrics. If it does not promote sin, then it's probably OK. Except most music of the world does promote sin.

And the lord said unto St Jimmy of Page "Taketh thee this Fender Stratocaster and lay down some tunes". And the lord was pleased by Stairway to Heaven.

Some churches don't want you to listen to music that isn't christian because it's unpure and if you aren't celebrating jesus through music, you shouldn't listen to it at all. But that's really stupid. You can listen to whatever you want.
