Act is straightforward but you have to read quick
Sat is for tricky word pickers, and the bigger vocab type.
If you're englishy the sat is better
if youre mathy, and straight forward go act but make sure you can read quickly.
If you have the means take both (twice) and theres conversions between the two if you google it and use your best.
( don't forget the sat adds all yoru best scores together and the act doesnty though)

If you haven't taken the precursor to either (PLAN for ACT, PSAT for SAT) and you're a freshman or sophomore, consider taking both as they have a decent amount of predictive value as far as where you'll score regarding the actual ACT and SAT. Otherwise, it's not a bad idea to take both once (many people will do this with a low degree of studying), and then evaluate which you felt more comfortable on / which you scored higher on and go with that. Almost no college requires that you send in both your ACT and SAT if you took it; the most that's usually expected is that you send in all of the scores of the particular one that you performed higher on. Also, colleges typically look only at the higher of the two exams, even if you do send both. You can always ask people who have taken the exam, college counselors, or just pick up some study books in a library or bookstore and flip through them to see what they're like.

You should check to see which test the colleges you are interested in require you to take. If you plan on going to graduate school a lot require you to have the SAT. It really depends on what schools you are going to. If you want to be safe you could take both.

If you are bad at Science - then take the SAT. Conversely, if you are good at Science, then take the ACT.

ACT is easier than SAT. the only hard part is the science part of the act. if you're bad at science, don't take act.
