tattoo pain level comparisons?
i am thinking of getting a small tattoo:
http://www.coopstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/1...
on either my inner forearm, my wrist, or the top back of my shoulder. i have a pretty low pain tolerance, but i have recently gotten operated on [awake] while doctors try to get glass out of my foot [with several shots of lidocaine that in some occasions did not completely settle in before they operated]... i didnt get sick or pass out from that, but that was probably the most pain ive been in, so do you think i would be ok with a tattoo of about that size in one of those locations? what does it feel like?
thanks!

If it's simple and on the small side it shouldn't take more then a 1/2 hour for an experienced artist to complete. Do your home work, walk into a few tattoo shops in your area and have a look through protfolios. Also make sure the shop is clean and that your comfortable being in it.
The wrist can be sensitive if it's going over the bones in the wrist, the shoulder wasn't too bad for me, inner for arm should be about the same as the shoulder. I was recently told by a tattooist that it usually hurts more to get tattooed on an area that gets more sun then others. Also people have told me that it hurts more to get tattooed over bony areas of the body.
To me a tattoo feels like a cat constantly scratching your skin with very sharp claws. It burns for a day or two after getting it but then the pain dies down as it heals.
Have a meal before you go to keep your blood sugar up. Don't take any pain killers, they make you bleed. If you really want it then man up and get it done.

I copied this from an answer I wrote a few years ago pasted here again =
.....the least painful spot is the spot that you want the tattoo the most- put pain in its place. For tattoos the pain is mostly mental build up, and once the buzz starts you'll see that it isn't what you expected or heard from "experts" on here with 3-4 hours of work done that claim to know everything on pain, placement, etc. The first 20 seconds your endorphins will be so high that most of the perceived pain will vanish into a pleasurable experience that you'll welcome many more times. If it hurt as much as some people say think of how many 1/2 done tattoos you'd see. I did meet a girl once who had a 4" line done of her piece she picked out, and she stopped the guy but said she was going back as she admitted she worked herself up into a frenzy beforehand. Eat a nice healthy meal before you go, and bring a candy bar for after to get the blood sugar back up. Pain is not a reason not to get ink. Don't sit too long; if it gets overwhelming you can always come back to finish, but you'll do fine.

A tattoo like that on your wrist etc would only take 5 minutes to do, so it wont be long. I have a tattoo on my wrist and my shoulder, and my shoulder was least sore. Although tattoos on the bones are meant to be sorer but for my my wrist was sorest. It's like a burning pain and depending if its on a bone or not you can feel it rumbling on your bone. You should go for it, its only a small tattoo so it will be bearable and quick and then you will be able to tell if you can get any more etc. I have high pain tolerance but my friend has the lowest ever and she managed to get through it lol! Once your getting it done it will fly in and will be done before you know it just distract yourself and hold someones hand.
