CONS: Do you believe in HUMAN evolution?
A recent PEW poll says that most Conservatives don't believe in human evolution anymore. Specifically, did humans evolve from a "lower" primate? Do we share ancestors with the other primates? I hope this does not bring out the bigots and racists, I'm looking for thoughtful answers.

Well...
Many American conservatives are Christians, in which case they most likely believe in creationism.
I fall into that category.
I believe that evolution is possible. I believe that evolution is a constant process. I'm probably evolving right now.
But I also believe in a creator, and I think that humans were created as humans.
That is, I believe that there is constant adaptation/micro-evolution, but I do not believe in macro-evolution or the idea that humans evolved from a lower form of primate.
And science has never really proven that there has been any form of macro-evolution. Even bugs tend to evolve into mere variations of the same sort of critter. I'm not going to say it isn't possible for a macro sort of thing to happen, given the infinite possibilities of evolution and the inumerable circumstances that could occur, up to and including intergalactic radiation or something that might transform the world if a meteor with completely unearthly elements smashes into our planet. I mean, anything is possible.
But, as a Christian, my faith and interpretation of the Bible is that God made man specifically as man. And even if we've evolved over time, I don't think we've evolved out of our initial created species/form/whatever.
So put me into your poll

To a point yes. DNA is evolution. Last year I made a point of studying evolution. I watched this free 20 hr seminar from Stanford. See link. I also watched a show by Morgan Freeman Through the Wormhole "God vs Evolution". I learned a lot.
Did we evolve? Yes. But the problem is DNA only replicates. It cannot duplicate .. meaning it cannot start itself. Watch the link below and you will find even Darwin believed in God.
Watch the Wormhole show and you will find there is an issue of evolutionary development and time. Meaning .. for what a human is today .. he/she hasn't been on Earth long enough to reach this stage of development. There had to be help .. like God.

Here's the problem. If we say we just appeared, spawned by Adam and Eve. Then we "don't understand science." Because apparently evolution is the only branch of science out there.
But if we say we evolved, and came from some primate. We run the risk of tripping over someone's race card so they can call us hateful racist bigots, then walk away like cowards.

As I always say. If we evolved from apes, then why haven't the apes evolved yet? There's the proof.
If evolution were correct. Then the life form that emerged from your goo pool on earth would evolve into one thing probably simplistic not complex like man. It would be resistant to extreme hot and cold, and not require food or oxygen to survive.
All evidence indicates the earth was fabricated by higher intelligence. The ecosystem loops a circle recycling everything.
As for man we might be spliced between ape and God DNA. And as for the dinosaurs. That could be either a failed experiment. Or another races experiment wiped out.

Well, tell me, what did we (humans) evolve FROM and what do you see us
evolving TO so far? Even the Zulus still have the human form and extremities
tho their way of living is different. I don't see any changes from looking back
in history book pictures. The Good Book says God created the humans, the
plants, the animals, and everything in the Universe. Makes sense to me.

Ok. I feel we are separate from apes. I believe much of evolution but not us coming from apes. Look at our rotary cuffs for example. Apes are designed to swing from trees, pull down branches, and we were designed to throw. We aren't even the oldest life forms yet we are the most evolved? Plus humans do NOTHING to contribute to the environment naturally. I can't help but feel that this world was created for us but we just destroy it.
edit: basically, animals naturally contribute to the planet, we don't.

Your understanding of the concept is wrong.
You can belief in God, Ghosts, Magic, etc. as a member some kind of cult. Evolution theory is scientific theory. You can't belief or not belief in scientific theory.
The correct question in that context would be: Is Evolution theory proved enough, beyond any reasonable doubt?
Btw, do you think that person who thinks, Evolution proved beyond any reasonable doubt can belief in God, or not?
It seem to me one does not exactly negate the other...

Absolutely. To the point where I laugh at the leftists trying to say that man came form one spot in Africa so they can say all men where black. They are as bad as the Adam & Eve promoters. We evolved fom many areas on the earth in many ways and different colors and attributes.

I'm conservative, I believe in God but am not religious (agnostic theist). I believe God and evolution can co-exist. I believe there is evolution, God had a hand in it, but we did not evolve from apes. I would't care if we did, but I just don't see it.

I have never seen such a pol. I don't believe it. It's kind of difficult to deny evolution, even though it isn't a finished, proven law. It is still a theory.
