how is the gene for gblt passed on?

I have a good friend who is gay, so I have been wondering about a couple of things ...

If a gay/lesbian person only has sex with a person of the same sex how can that gene be passed on? I've been told it is genetic, hard-wired, so it is not a societal "choice".

And why do gay people like to have so many sex parties, and travel all over the country to attend camps with other gay people and why do they tend to like very young partners? That part sounds odd to me since the majority of the hetero world have one partner and do not travel all over to have sex with people they don't even know.

Update:

I've no idea how this got placed on a cancer forum. The forum was chosen by Yahoo Answers when I posted the question and it came up as "Health"

Firstly, let me make this very clear, sexual preference is in no way related to cancer.

Sexual preference is not a choice, nor is it a learned behavior or aquired taste. But it is not an inherited trait either.Just as we can have a preference for tall/short, fat/thin, etc we can have a preference for male or female.

As for having sex parties and travelling all over the country.... could it possibly be that they are just trying to spend time in a non-judgemental situation where they are likely to be mixing with others with simillar sexual preferences? No real difference to heterosexuals attending B & S (bachelor & spinster) balls or a Sadie Hawkins day event.

As for them liking very young partners, this is probably no different than in the heterosexusl community. For everyone with a young partner there is one with an old partner so the average stays the same.

As for heteros having a single partner and not travelling for sex ...... ever wonder what college students do on spring break?

You are just comming across as narrow minded. The sexual preference of others should only be important to you if you are planning to have sex with them.

While genes may be involved in sexual preference, the control of sexual behaviour is complex and would involve a large number of genetic and environmental elements. There is no single gay gene and it also seems unlikely that sexual preference is something passed on in this way. As there is still considerable prejudice against the LG community its not surprising that people will seek social situations in which they feel comfortable. There are some theories to do with genetic "fitness" that do attempt to explain some of the differences in sexual behaviour, men being more promiscuous and women more choosy, but the idea that hetrosexual relationships are generally monogamous is not very convincing these days.

Hetero man can get any woman pregnant. Doesn't work that way for gays. BTW, this is the cancer forum.
