how to wire a screen/display into a power supply?

Im wanting to build a custom tattoo power supply, im getting the transformers, rectifier, capacitors, and rheostat, all at correct amounts, but i wanna put in a screen to display the voltage. Do i need some kinda pc board? Ive never hooked up a screen before and would be jice to know everything i can. I tried asking one of my electrical teachers but he didnt know. Thank you for all advice given..

It all depends entirely upon the make and model of screen, and whether it contains integrated driver electronics or not.

But there's a saying which applies perfectly, "There's no point in re-inventing the wheel". What you want can be done perfectly well using a simple and very cheap (about £5/$5 or €5) electricians LCD or LED multimeter. They're self-contained, battery-powered and just need two wires to be connected. If you want you can gut the working parts from the casing and fit them into whatever you prefer, and even connect a DC power supply to it to replace the battery, but personally I'd just stick an adhesive pad on the back and mount it directly to the outside of your device.

    Job done.
