How does one fail out of college?
My friend's roommate is... an ***, to say the least. We were wondering if there was a chance he may have failed out of school after the first semester (we return this weekend):
-Went to the first three days of school
-Did not go to any classes after the first three days
-Didn't even know when Thanksgiving break was (international student so it didn't make a difference to him). But seriously, he never went to class (woke up at 4pm, in bed at 6am)
-We're not sure if he went to finals or not
My question is, what are the chances he won't return to school because he failed out after 1 semester? How far can the academic limits be pushed before the college throws you out?
Pardon my naive question, I'm not used to asking about the dark side of the GPA scale!
Was an *** for reasons that are only partially related to him not going to class. We just want to know if my friend will get some relative peace and quiet this semester (even though he'll get a new roommate).

You usually get put on academic probation before getting kicked out. So assuming he failed all of his classes, and this was his first semester doing so, he'll get one more semester to try to bring his GPA up (usually to a 2.0). If he's unable to do that, THEN he would get suspended from the university.

It typically takes more than a single semester to flunk out. The university generally gives students at least one semester to bring their grades up.
It sounds, however, like he might not even be enrolled. Wait until the end of the add period, then report him to the RA about your suspicions. If he's not enrolled in classes, he can't live in the dorms.

Yes a student can be kick out of college after one semester. It would depend on how low their GPA is.
An international student must be enroll and attending college if they are here on a student visa

Most likely he failed school and his GPA is 0. If he doesn't go to class, why attend college?
