Animal abuse... what about human abuse?
I just read someone's question on animal abuse, and it made me think:
Animal abuse??? Why don't "pet people" ever acknowledge CHILD abuse... Anyone who consciously harms animals is doing so to express anger. This doesn't come out of no where. This is is someone that has without a doubt, either been abused themselves growing up, or has watched abuse taking place regularly. Abuse of any sort is traumatizing, and the easiest coping mechanism for most children is to internalize it. This means that a child who continued to experience, for example, crude name calling in place of love and support, will consider THAT the norm, and end up subconsciously repeating the actions of their abusers onto other weaker people, kids or animals.
Animal abuse is not some isolated global issue.... It is merely proof that we as a species, are in fact psychologically ill. You are not going to wipe out a byproduct like animal abuse without fixing the root problem.
Agree or disagree... thoughts?
But WHY would someone enjoy inflicting pain on something weaker? I think it's naive to believe abusers appear randomly. Abuse is a word that should be used more loosely than it is. Culturally, when we think "child abuse", we think extreme cases because those are the ones most talked about. Really, abuse (in my humblest of opinions) is any ongoing adverse childhood experience, which can be anything from "corrective" spanking, to emotionally distant parents, to sexual molestation. These are NOT any kind of rarity, and if you think so, please wake up.
Of course, I'm not saying everyone is like that. I'm not trying to sound black and white. This is a massive generalization... And sure there is no black and white. I am not insinuating that people against animal abuse are somehow pro child abuse... that would be stupid. My point is that when you treat animal abuse at face value by saying "some people are just like that randomly"... how can you expec
-how can you expect anything to change?
My dear, I was not saying everyone who is abused turns into an abuser! People have a wonderful capacity for intelligence and "unlearning" some of the terrible experiences they have to sometimes bear. It comes down to: some unlearn, while some only internalize.
I am a "pet person" by the way.

Actually animal abuse and child abuse can and does run hand in hand. People who are cruel to animals are also cruel to children. It is all about control over something that is weaker. In cases of harm to animals IMO if there are children in the household DSS needs to be brought in to investigate the well being of the kids too.

Wrong. People abuse animals without ever being abuse or witnessing abuse. People abuse children without ever abusing an animal, being abused or witnessing abuse. Some people abuse animals and children.
There's no "black and white" answers to this, it's not a simple "Oh anyone who hurts an animal was abused!". That's a simplistic view of the world.
People might care about animal abuse and speak about it being wrong and STILL care about child abuse. I don't know of anyone who states "It's wrong to hurt an animal but it's fine to abuse kids."

Your wrong, I'm a child of abuse and animals are my comfort. Why, because there not out to hurt me just because they can. A person can abuse just for enjoyment without Ebert having a hand laid on them. Abuse is a choice, i never abused my kids because i didn't want them to go through what i went through, its a CHOICE YOU MAKE, just like taking drugs or drinking. And why do you say pet people, why not all people, acknowledge child abuse, sounds like your discriminating against pet people
