What would be an example of an independent and dependent variable for this hypothesis question?
Students who life off campus are more likely to be involved in crimes then those students who life on campus.

Independent variable: Whether or not the student lives on campus.
Dependent variable: Whether or not the student is involved in crimes.
You will have to define "involved in crimes" pretty carefully, though. And of course you will have to consider all sorts of other variables that might contribute to the outcome.

You mean "live." You need to discuss this with your professor, or at the very least visit your school library. It's hard to understand what you're asking.
