LOL, bulldozer from CMC
I'm not smart and it's a complex issue. I have no solution. Isn't that what we pay politicians and their advisers for? Maybe we need to put more money into think tanks.
Illegal immigrants should be deported back to their home country. Legal migrants should be deported if they are convicted and found guilty of committing a serious crime, full stop.
If you come to this country and do the wrong thing, get out. Simple as that.

The problem is that the government is doing very little about the illegal immigrants, they are concentrating on stopping the boats which are carrying legal immigrants. Anyone can cross a border into another country and seek asylum as a refugee. That is international law to which Australia is a signatory. The people smugglers are acting illegally but the passengers on the boats are not illegals.
The illegals come here mainly from Europe (particularly the UK and Ireland) and the USA on tourist and Working Holiday Visas and don't go home when their visas expire. They are the true illegals in this country but successive governments seem to do very little about them.
Asylum seekers were treated very differently not so long ago and the government concentrated on the illegals. Anyone, it seems, can just arrive in Australia with any visa now and not go home and no-one seems to care because too much time and effort is being put into the problem of legal migrants.

Concentrate on the majority of real illegal immigrants and stop demonizing the minority by using them to incite hate which leads to votes.
Its simple really we love to spout on about being a Christian country but often we forget how to act like one.

I was surprised to read this article about how they are planning to ship failed asylum seekers out more quickly. I always imagined that if you weren't a approved asylum seeker that you mean you were an illegal immigrant and you would be sent back from where you came from pronto. But apparently not....

The illegal immigrants are the ones who arrive here legitimately, usually by plane, and overstay their visas. Our black economy makes it possible for these people to continue to live here and earn a living without coming to the attention of government departments.
The GST was going to put a stop to the cash economy as everyone would be paying tax for goods and services and would presumably want that fact recognised in their own tax records, official income in and expenditure out. That was the theory but in reality our cash economy has flourished ever since.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this answer, save to say that there have to be stricter controls on visas and the cash economy.

Anne, is that the little bulldozer in your avatar?
This subject is never easy to embrace, but I have not hidden to the fact, I am vocal in sending them back, as we did with the 130 odd Chinese illegals in 2000, we didn't let world opinion criticize our decision.
Australia has a real problem, and should send a clear message. We cuffed and sent our illegals to a prison, processed them put them on buses, and delivered them to the aircraft for deportation, the children were placed in foster homes, they were deported on the same day.
No argument, no crap.......

My solution would be to never ever again allow anyone from the Labor Party to be involved in any way. Look what happened when they were last in government.
