All of these terms are dependent upon ancestry, rather than upon where anyone lives. An “Israelite” is any biological descendant of Jacob. Jacob was renamed “Israel” by God in Genesis 32:28. “And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” Jacob was the father of the twelve tribes of Israel whom he blessed in Genesis 49:1-28. Thus, the nation of Israel is often called “the children of Israel” in the Bible text, because they are the descendants of the man, “Israel”.
The term “Hebrews” is almost identical to “Israelites”, but it slightly broader, because it includes the fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in addition to all of the descendants of Jacob. We know this because Abraham was referred to as “Abram the Hebrew” in Genesis 14:13. Therefore all Israelites are also Hebrews.
In explaining the term “Jews”, it is beneficial to understand some of Israel’s national history. After the reign of King

An Israelite is a person of Hebrew descent, I.e., can trace their heritage back to Abraham.
Hebrew defines the entire culture of Jewish Israelites; from nationality and ethnicity, to religion and all things that entails. Being a Jew can be Jewish in faith, OR Jewish in nationality.

I am a qualified and licensed doctor and I check the difference by DNA. I have checked so many persons of different religion, race and community all over the world people,in the international level, but find the same structure of DNA in human being and there I didn't find much difference in DNA and I don't classify all of them different as far as Biological cell of the body is concered. I am waiting for the day when all types of classifications of religion or race or community united in one roof when there be peace in the world.Nothing but "PEACE". Your question of Hebrew or Israelite answered by many members in this list by tracing history, but my answer which is traced by biology of man by DNA, is different and I feel that not only Hebrew or Israelite is one but the entire world people are one if united in the same umbrella of human race.

The Hebrew people were the general tribes of which the tribe of Abraham was one. Abraham begat Isaac (had Isaac as a child), Isaac begat Jacob. Those are the 3 patriarchs of the 12 tribes of Israel of which Judah was one. Jacob wrestled with the "angel of God" and Jacob's name was changed to Israel which means "man who wrestled with God.
Jacob/Israel had 12 sons and one of them was named Joseph. Joseph's brother's were jealous of him and sold him into slavery in Egypt. Despite being a slave Joseph became second in command to only Pharaoh himself. Joseph prophesied to Pharaoh that there would be 7 years of great crops and 7 years of famine. Joseph brought his father and brothers into Egypt so they would survive the 7 years of Famine. Each of the 12 sons of Israel had a family that grew larger and larger until each became a huge tribe of people. This is where the 12 tribes of Israel came from.
The 12 tribes of Israel were in Egypt for 300 years. Moses led the 12 tribes of Israel into the desert and then to the "promised land of Canaan". One of the tribes of Israel was the tribe of Judah which settled in Southern Israel. It is the 12 tribes of Israel who are God's Chosen people, not just the tribe of Judah. After some time all of the tribes of Israel were called "Jews" and it cause us some problems because when Jesus was here and when the Bible was written both Jesus and His disciples said some negative things about the Jews but at that time it was only the tribe of Judah who were called Jews as well as the people living in the territory of Judea.
I know I have written more than you asked for but the question you asked is so important that I wanted to give you some background so that you would understand my answer better and also better understand the Bible. God bless you for asking this very important question.
