How does this sound for a beginning of a story I am writing?

Another new school year at another new school. My mom cleared her throat, "This is the last time okay. I promise no more moving sweetie" but she said that last six new school years at other new schools. We're driving toward my newest school in a weird town named Ever Greenville. The name could not be more ironical because all I see is snow everywhere, branches without leaves, and how slow my mom is driving due to the ice on the street. So much for ever and green.

I think you need a little bit more depth into this story. Basically, the only theme I see is "moving to a new school sucks." You should give a sense of how it can be emotionally hard for this character. What will this book be about? I think you need to add a little more to show more originality. Try from staying away from too many cliches, for you already made one.

However, it seems like a good start. Keep working at it. :)

    You need a stronger hook.

    Try something like this:

Whoever named this snowbound town "Ever Greenville" had a great sense of humor. The best I could manage was a chuckle. Mom was driving and snow was everywhere, along with branches without leaves. And she had slowed to a crawl because of the sheet of ice on the street.

So much for ever and green.

Mom cleared her throat., "Honest, sweetie, this is the last time, okay? I promise, no more moving."

Her exact same words the last six Septembers, when I was about to become the new kid in the new school.
