Why do I have to pay for the entire month of a phone bill if the company makes me wait for one week to fix it?

The home phone was giving a busy signal for two days and the phone company was closed on the weekends (which is a problem in itself, since they are a huge company). Once we contacted them on Monday, they said that they can only come out Friday. This makes the lack of phone usage at an entire week. Shouldn't the company have enough decency to deduct the week off the bill? Just another corporate rip-off.
