The so-called "Declaration of Independence" actually began as a declaration of grievances, mainly aimed at Parliament. The primary grievance at the time (as now) was the extent of the taxes levied and their effect on the profits garnered by some sectors of the colonial economy, and the fact the wealthy colonial merchants and land masters didn't want to pay them.
Anyone who was able to read and write in the colonies at the time was wealthy enough not to be affected by what were then some of the Crown's more repressive policies (housing troops, etc.).
At the time, the DOI was totally illegal under Crown law.

Do you have a link to the Crimean declaration? Did Crimea declare independence from Ukraine?

Ukraine gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Now, Putin wants Crimea part of Russia.......eventually, he would like to have all of Ukraine.
It will be up to the Ukrainian people which way they will go...half the country is pro Russia and the other half wants to join with the European Union (EU).

i don't believe the Declaration of Independence is a legal document. I think it is more of a . . .well, a declaration.
I do not know if Crimea ever published a Declaration of Independence.
I just think they just said, "we are outta here."
