Sub teacher cant afford Obamacare, now what do I do?
Before I get any smarta&& comments, THINK before you reply please!! I am finishing up college, waiting on a spot to open up in my field (Im a teacher) I am subbing right now. I make ok money doing that BUT, I do not qualify for benefits yet because I am not technically an employee of the school system. If anyone else has subbed before you know what Im talking about. I live with my boyfriend but, we are NOT married and really dont plan on getting married for the sake of insurance!! I had to apply for Obamacare before the 31st or get a fine at the end of the year (and dont get me wrong here I am a democrat but, this is ridiculous!!) I do not qualify for any "help" but I have to have insurance and even the crappy ones (HIGH HIGH deductible) are 150 a month!! YIKES!! I do not go to the dr enough to warrant a 4000 dollar deductible be met. The ones with a copay are OUTRAGEOUS!! No kidding like 300 a month!! What do I do here? Anyone else in this boat? Ive seen people on YA telling people that they can get this insurance for 25 bucks a month??!! Id LOVE to know how!! Who can afford to pay out of their pocket even 150 a month for something they are NOT going to use?? And lets face it, its going to take a LONG time to run up a 4000 dollar deductible. Right now IF I have to go to the dr, I go to a clinic on a sliding scale and pay 60% of my bill and its working fine for me, why do I have to have this?

the "system" was designed so that full time students would be exempt -- because they don't have income they aren't liable for either buying the product or the fine for not having it.
nowhere, except the intentionally misleading title of the law ["Affordable Care Act"], did anyone say it would be cheap -- in fact, the administration went out of its way to make sure it won't be cheap by piling on a whole raft of forced coverages at low or no co-payment.
So -- what do you do? If your college doesn't have a student plan that you're eligible for, my suggestion would be to do nothing. Then when you file your 2014 taxes and the IRS has the new nasty form related to having health insurance, write in the form that the whole bit is so complex that you couldn't figure it out, put down zero added tax due, and send it in without signature on that form. Let IRS chase you if they want to ... [the law says they can't do anything except reduce your refund by the amount of the penalty they think you owe].

I do suggest you seek out a counselor and review the figures to be sure you cannot qualify for a lower rate.
But look at it this way: If you are in a car accident or for some other reason have to go to a hospital you will go through $4000 pretty fast. And by subbing one extra day a month you can pay that $150 premium.
One more tip. You might check out a civil union with your boy friend. Neither of you are married in a civil union. And it can be ended fairly easily. That could work for you.
Nothing in this world is free and right now you do have to struggle. But what is more important than your own health? And if you look around you might be able to get a long term substitution job with benefits.

4000 Dollar deductible can be used up in a heartbeat if anything happens to you. For instance, a 3 day stay in a hospital could set you back about 25K. The costs are insane.

your president, barry ochitstain & his democrat cohorts decided over the objections of the American people to pass the job killing monstrosity known as the Affordable Care Act. in the law, it mandated that EVERY American have health insurance of some sort, so if you are not offered insurance thru your job, or can't find it in the open market, you go to a healthcare exchange.
btw, the fine for not having insurance only applies if you get a tax refund. if you end up with no refund or owing the government, you will not be fined.
you voted for the unqualified community organizer in chief, YOU own this mess & now YOU get to reap the consequences.
