Help on connecting hahnel mk100 to canon 600d?

I've just purchased the hahnel mk100 external microphone for my canon 600d and it doesn't seem to working when I'm recording. My camera still seems to be using the internal mic when the external mic is connected.

Two questions. Does your mike take a battery? Most microphones of this kind have what's called a

phantom power - meaning it needs its own power to operate.

Second, is the input plug correct? If it's not the correct size it may not be hitting the "kill switch" which turns off the camera's internal microphone. Could be this mike is intended for a specific camera type that takes a different sized input plug.

I own a t3i (600D) and I have two microphones that I use with it and the kill switch always works but I have the correct size of input plug.

Check those things, both the battery and the input plug size.

    Good luck.

It should work automatically. Is the jack plug fully pushed in?
