Good question, yet this is nothing but a substitution fallacy. The sign of the cross works well with the human psyche. An axe, a grenade or a gallon of gas not so much. The cross is the truth that was prophesied and the axe isn't the truth nor prophesied.

The wearing of the cross used to signify someone who believed in a loving god and acting like it sadly it now appears to symbolize someone who practices intolerance and persecution towards others!

England's Archbishop of Canterbury has said that Christianity is now known for it's hatreds and not about god!

The sacrifice of the Christ sealed the New Covenant in his blood - the cross is a testiment to the price paid. I personally think a better testiment would be the infinity symbol with one side filled in representing the stone rolled away and the empty grave - without the resurrection there is no Christianity so the empty grave is more a fitting symbol, especially given the closs assocaition with the cross to Catholicism which is somewhat anti-christian in nature.

So.. you're not really asking are you - you're trying to make a point that you think it's wrong to wear a cross.

The reason is because they want to remember the incredible sacrifice that Jesus made to save them from sins.

Bear in mind though Jesus didn't just die did he? He rose from the dead and lives forever and through his conquering of death we too can have hope of eternal life.

The Cross or Crucifix is a symbol of God's mercy a symbol of repentance and because Christians have a visible God they wear a visible symbol of their faith for all to see.

The Catholic Church teaches that the symbol of the Cross of Crucifix should be worn by Christians as a symbol of their faith in which all may look upon the symbol of God's mercy the symbol of repentance. As with medals of the Saints and Scapulars they should be worn underneath the clothing in which that person knows the medal of the Saint or the Scapular are there close to them but should not be revealed to the world being their works are done in Christ and through Him they are revealed to the world which is why Christians wear the Cross or Crucifix on the outside of their clothing.

This is because Jesus died on a cross. Personally I dont wear trinkets.
