When and where is first night?

My friends marriage is on 21st April Morning 10 AM in the Brides home town which is OOTY. After the ceremony both the Bridegroom and bride are taken to the Bridegrooms home town which is 40KM away on that day evening 5 PM. Is that night is their first wedding night? Does is suppose to happen only in Bridegrooms house?

That is true, but my parents are looking for a girl for my marriage, and i have lot of confusions in my mind, any how thanks for the reply.
