When did the US Army pass the President's helicopter off to become Marine One?

    For a while both the Army and the Marines had a unit that for the President (Army One and Marine One). During the Carter Administration, he decided to cut Executive expenses and eliminated Army One, so now only Marine One exists.

    Not sure what you're talking about. Anytime a President is in a Marine Corps helicopter it becomes Marine One, just as any plane becomes Air Force One.
