I got duped! Gimpshop help?

So I was searching for a photoshop alternative and found gimpshop, which I already had gimp and assumed gimpshop was something DIFFERENT from the same company, Gimpshop downloaded a bunch of **** along with it Weatherbug(urrrh, Weatherbug!)some fake security stuff that just lies to me, and some other confusingly named ****.

if anyone has downloaded gimpshop, what are the names of the programs i have to uninstall, I've found 3 of them so far, Weatherbug, 'Advanced tools' and vuuPC.

Yes you did get duped . . .

GIMPshop is a bad egg - although at one time it was good software, but not now. In fact it's not even the real GIMPshop which is seriously outdated now [it was made for Windows 98!!] The GIMPshop on offer today is actually a repackaging of the official GIMP with malware added to the installer - it is not GIMPshop at all. The website gimpshop.com is a rip-off of the original GIMPshop site, which has been abandoned by the original developer - the original developers website is here: http://gimpshop.blogspot.co.uk/ - You can read about the debacle over at wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMPshop#Status

You should really only get GIMP at the official GIMP website at http://www.gimp.org/ - it's the only safe place to get GIMP. Part of the original GIMPshop features have also now been added to the newest version GIMP 2.8.10 - it has now has implemented a single window mode (a single window interface), which was the main reason GIMPshop was originally created in the first place.

Anyhoo, now how to get rid of the crap. First uninstall as much of the crapware as you can - including the "GIMPshop" application itself. Sorry I don't know which particular crapware you will have, as it varies depending on the installer you used.

Then go download malwarebytes free edition here, and run a scan several times: https://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/lp4/02/?gclid=CPnJ...

Then run an anti-virus scan, several times.

You many also need to reset your browser to it's default settings - if you have popups or tool bars or a browser exploit. Follow these instructions: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/6361-reset-your-browser-...

Good luck, hope you get it fixed.

It wasn't gimpshop it was the site from which you got it, probably something like Softpedia. Such sites get paid by including adware in the software. When you go to install it, pay close attention to each screen. There will probably be an option to allow extra programs to be installed. It will look like a normal copyright agreement or such. You have to say no or decline. This is why I will go to great lengths to find the publisher's own web site from which to download the app.

Implement a restore point to before the installation and then go here to download the real thing:
