I have the feeling that the correct form is philos but I would rather back it up with actual scholarship than "a feeling"

Wrong language. And even if you convince yourself it's not about homosexual love, what are you going to do about choosing Jonathan to his own confusion, or the vows they took before god? Or that thing in the field?
