Why has my TOP Contributor Designation been taken away in such a disturbing and unfair manner?

It happens to us all & I can understand why you say it is unfair.I lost my 3 TC due to the new format causing most of my contacts leaving YA.They regularly gave me BAs in the categories I frequented,sometimes up to 20 each day.Now I an lucky to get 2 per week.Although a TC doesn't mean much,it does signify that our answers are appreciated by other members.I got most of my BAs in Education & Referrence sub sections.The fact is,without those BAs our BA percentage falls and we lose the badge.

To actually answer your question, your TC status was not removed in any unfair manner, sorry. That badge is not based on the quality of answers nor is it passed out upon review of a person's contributions. It is based strictly on a numerical algorithm. Enough Best Answers in a single category in a certain period of time and you get it. That's it. If you answer in a category where people seldom choose the Best Answer, it will disappear. Now that YA has terminated voting, I suspect many, many users will lose theirs, as many users depended on voting to maintain it.

Sorry that you find this disturbing, but since this change affects everyone across the site, it is totally fair. You simply need to accept that the site isnow different and not hang your sense of self esteem or self worth on something as trivial as the TC crown.

the quality of the answer was never given any consideration in the old green format or in the new format before voting was eliminated

TC was ALWAYS based on the quantity only of answers you gave in a particular category, up to three categories

in that regard, nothing has changed

what has changed is due to the elimination of voting, we ALL now receive less BAs and many have lost their TC crowns

there is no reason to alter your participation in YA just because a gold crown no longer appears beside your avatar

no one is going to discount your answers

since most people were and are aware that TC status was about quantity rather than quality, most don't pay any attention to it - you pick the best answer, not the best answer given by a top contributor

it would be absolutely impossible for Yahoo to create computer code that would be capable of reading every single answer posted and determine the QUALITY of the answer and dole out TC crowns based on the content of the answers - absolutely impossible

that's why it's calculated on the quantity
