When television disclaimers say "don't try this at home", why do they specify "at home"?

I'm thinking that it is just as dangerous for an amateur to attempt the stunt, no matter where they are attempting to do it.

Why specify "at home"?

Why not say "don't try this on your own"?

they are protecting themselves, they dont want to get sued if someone tries it and gets hurt.. it doesnt matter at home or at a park, or in a garage.... they just say " kid's dont try this at home "... its a blanket statement

You're right, it just means it's dangerous and shouldn't be tried by an amateur. They add the "at home" part just because that's where you would be viewing the commercial or program. So it's almost like they are saying "Hey you... there at home watching this...don't try it!"

Maybe with the new tech things today they will need to change it. Although most people do watch tv at someone's home. But now you can watch tv anywhere. But that somewhat refers to not trying it at all, unless you are trained, and and usually an unspoken message are stupid.

While it's true that some t.v. programs are better at informing and portraying than catalogs, books in themselves are an escape. I would have a e book over t personally.v.

Because they are watching tv. And it protects the programme from being sued if an idiot tried it after being told not to.
