atheist, do you believe in souls?

Before you go bat **** crazy over this question let me educate you(the ones that do not understand the question). The belief in souls can exist without a belief in religion. while yes religion is based around the soul(or spirits) you can believe that we have souls without believing in a god/

so my question is do you believe that we all have a soul(or something similar to a soul if you have a problem with that word)? and do you believe in ghosts/spirits? again these questions arent related to religion so post your hate somewhere else

Update:

"let me educate you" i guess all of you harping over that didnt read the following "for the ones that do not understand the question". if you understood the question then there was no disrespect towards you. if you didnt understand the question (because you are hate religion) then take that statement as you see it

Not until someone can show how

    soul's presence and properties

    can be observed and measured

    by anyone,

and we all get about the same results,

    regardless of what we believe.

    Then I will believe

what has been observed and measured.

Until then, souls are just an idea

    in someone else's imagination.

That first sentence was unnecessary, a statement you don't want to hear is not going bat **** crazy.

However, I don't believe anything has a soul. I'm skeptical of ghosts, honestly I would have to experience it myself to be a believer.

I think its disturbances in the magnetic field that cause this so called "supernatural activity". It is proven that magnetic field disturbances can cause your brain to think and feel something is there, when its really not.

A soul as the description of our conscious and memory that is contained within our brains? Sure. A soul as in an entity or force that can exist outside of our brain? No.

This one doesn't and most probably do not. But you can be an atheist and still believe in souls/spirits/big foot/Nessie/alien abductions/etc. Very few probably do though. Atheism just means no belief in gods and neither implies nor requires anything else.

And most atheists know that which is why your question is insulting. You assume ignorance by atheists of what atheism means.

Atheists have nothing in common except the lack of belief in gods.

Some atheists are religious, some are not. Some atheists are spiritual, some are not. Some believe in a "soul" and some do not. You will never get an answer that is true for all atheists or even a majority because atheism is not a belief system or philosophy.

Personally I do not believe in souls because there is no evidence such things exist.

How perfectly arrogant. Yes, we know that belief in souls is independent from belief in gods. However, most of us don't believe in souls for the same reason we don't believe in gods - no evidence.

Nope, I don't believe in souls for the same reason I don't believe in ghosts and gods.

Lack of evidence that any of these things exist.

    no

    Atheists are soul-less

according to Atheism we are all a bag of random molecules with the purposefulness of randomness

since life has no purpose we can do anything we want because morality doesn't exist

evolution has a purpose so evolution must have a mind

natural selection, which guides the process, must have a will

but the universe has no purpose and will and it'll eventually die out. so will we.
