Do you have to file a copy of your last will and testament with the probate court for it to be legally valid?

The person who makes a last will and testament -- called the testator -- is well advised to file it at his local courthouse, where a judge will approve or return it for revisions if legally necessary, in order to make it a public record and thus harder to dispute. After the testator's death, the executor of the estate must file the will with the probate court.

No. You do not file anything with probate court. Documents are filed in court, AFTER the death of the person, when probate is opened.
