If you like classical music or think you like it and you don't go to concerts, why?

Hi everyone, I am a classical musician and am now working as president of a community orchestra. We live in a large metropolitan area (8 million people) and there is a lot of education and culture. But all the arts organizations have trouble attracting an audience.

I understand some people are uncomfortable with the formality of classical concerts; worrying about clapping at the wrong time or making some other faux pas, or that you have to dress like the paparazzi are following you.

Is there a reason you don't go? Just don't think of it or hear about the concerts? Too much trouble or expense (our most expensive tickets are $25).

I'd really appreciate any insights you can share. Thank you.

Scott

I did attend, when I lived in New York City. But now I live in a much smaller area where classical concerts are almost unheard of. I get my fix from YouTube.

Pretty much all the reasons you state: too expensive and too formal, I would feel out of place. That's my perception, don't know if they are really like that. Maybe you could have field trips for children to introduce them to classical venue. It's true they aren't advertised too well, also. I listen to classical music at home.

I live out in the country. The closest place I can go is over an hour away.

I have attended in the past.
