Offsett Question ? related to refund ?

I have an accounting issue with a student loan payback amount because they did a few offsetts several years ago ? So now I feel I overpaid it.

Where do I request copies and is there some kind of form to fill out to get copies since they are several years ago?

First of all, offset process is under Financial Management Service (FMS) of the Department of Treasury control. When you receive a notice of offset you must contact and request a review within 20 days.

Total offset amount cannot go beyond 15% of benefits, and those below $750/months free of offsets. If you still want to peruse your query, use http://www.fms.treas.gov/

contact the agency that your student loan was financed thru

if you think you paid it off years ago if there was any overpayment they likely have already found it and would have sent you a refund

however, a written request to review your account would certainly not be out of the question, go for it

IRS only collects the offset, it does not administer the student loan program

Try contacting your local IRS office in your area face to face about this problem that you think that you may have for some past tax years in your life to try and see if you can get some face to face assistance at that time from some one that does work for the IRS at that time.

    Contact Your Local IRS Office
