How should an out of shape person begin exercising?

I am out of shape and need to lose about 15 pounds. I've already started watching my calories abnd fat intake. And now I want to start jogging before working in the mornings. What is the best approach? I've had people tell me to go full steam ahead and jog until I can't take another step. I've also had people tell me to ease into it by switching between jogging and walking to gradually build up the stamina.

It is better to take your time in order to avoid injury.

First start with the walking -10 to 15 minutes a day 7 days a week.

With every week you add another 5 or 10 minutes.

Keep doing this till you get up to 1 hour.

Once you have achieved this, then, you warm up with 5 to 10 minutes, walk 5 to 10 minutes

then add a 1 minute jog, this will introduce an interval gradually to the routine.

keep repeating till the hour is up, this will promote the body to burn more fat, but, take you to jogging gently.

Then, the next week add 2 minute jog, in no time you will be running with wind.

    But, remember safely first.

    Good Luck in your journey

It depends on individual's fat cells, some people are normally thin, some people gain weight even when they drink water and most of the people are normal, doing exercise regularly can get you in shape. You can take help from a personal trainer to find out your top fat cell zones and doing the right workout, you can also do the exercises from home. Only running could lose your fat, but also will lose your muscle and you would look like a weak person. You can check this video, and also other exercise videos to mark your problems and goal and then start working out perfectly following the booklet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrmbw_EOHok

When you begin jogging, I would recommend working your way into it. Let's say you plan on doing 30 minutes. Try to get in 2 minutes of straight running/jogging every 5 minutes.

5 minute mark (Begin running) 7 minutes (walking) > 12 minute mark (Begin running) 14 minutes (walking) > 19 minute mark (Begin running) 21 minutes (walking) > 26 minute mark (Try to jog/run the last 4 minutes)

During the last 4 minutes, you go all out. If you put in all your energy right away, it'll wear you out faster, and might cause you to lose interest and stop early! Regardless, good luck on your weight loss!

Through personal experience the easiest way to lose weight is through walking.. i'm not saying walk to the park, we're talking 5-7 hour long walks. You get fit very quickly and will see your weight drop within 2 weeks if you have a 3 out of 7 day routine.

Walking 5-7 hours is not difficult, thinking about it is the hard part. It's also not as boring as many people might think.

If you have a bit of cash to spend you could walk the Camino de Santiago.. it's 500 miles across spain, accommodation is cheap and 150k people do it every year.

Ease into it, and increase the distance or your pace every day by a little. All at once is pretty bad. But on the first day, push yourself to the limit to see how much you can do. Set goals for yourself. In addition to jogging, you can do aerobic exercises and curl-ups and planks and stuff like that.

I'm with Jay up above me. Start slow or you will burn out right away. Keep it fun and do-able.
