I guess because the other lens is not Nikon compatible.

dont worry johnny im not putting random lenses on my f3, i know how to take care of my cameras. it is a third party lens with an f mount. the metering doesn't work properly with a vivitar wide angle and a telephoto that came with it. these lenses were made for film cameras so they came with an aperture ring, i just want to know why it isnt metering correctly with them

Did it occur to you that perhaps you camera and this other lens can't "talk"?
