Who is most likely to be the Antichrist seen from todays perspective?

The Antichrist has yet to be revealed, so we do not yet know. However, there are some clues to be found in the Bible. As the apostle John records in First and Second John, an antichrist denies the Father and the Son (1 John 2:22), does not acknowledge Jesus (1 John 4:3), and denies that Jesus came in the flesh (2 John 1:7). There have been many “antichrists,” as 1 John 2:18 states. But there is also coming the Antichrist.

Most Bible prophecy/eschatology experts believe the Antichrist will be ultimate embodiment of what it means to be against Christ. In the end times/last hour, a man will arise to oppose Christ and His followers more than anyone else in history. Likely claiming to be the true Messiah, the Antichrist will seek world domination and will attempt to destroy all followers of Jesus Christ and the nation of Israel.

Other biblical references to the Antichrist include the following:

The imposing, boastful king of Daniel 7 who oppresses the Jews and tries to “change the set times and the laws” (verse 25).

The leader who establishes a 7-year covenant with Israel and then breaks it in Daniel 9.

The king who sets up the abomination of desolation in Mark 13:14 (cf. Daniel 9:27).

The man of lawlessness in 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12.

The rider on a white horse (representing his claim to be a man of peace) in Revelation 6:2.

The first beast—the one from the sea—in Revelation 13. This beast receives power from the dragon (Satan) and speaks “proud words and blasphemies” (verse 5) and wages war against the saints (verse 7).

Thankfully, the Antichrist/beast, along with his false prophet, will be thrown into the lake of fire, where they will spend all eternity in torment (Revelation 19:20; 20:10).

The Antichrist is the end-times false messiah who seeks, and likely achieves, world domination so that he can destroy Israel and all followers of Jesus Christ. This person seeks to do the will of the one who sends him, Satan. Revelation describes the whore of Babylon, who sits astride the scarlet beast, and these certainly represent evil systems - religious and political. But the Antichrist who will be identified at the Tribulation appears to be an individual.

Bonus Question: Daniel was talking about Antiochus Epiphanes then goes on (verses 36-45) to prophecy about the future coming of the Antichrist. This Antichrist "will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the one desired by women..." is talking about the god Tammuz.

You thinking is too small and narrow.

1 John and 2 John show Antichrists began to show up in his day. Also specifically say there are many Antichrists. These were never single solitary persons. They were groups. Then read the description of identification of Antichrists.

They would appear to follow the Christ, but really tear down everything he taught. This class or group would exist beginning after Jesus died as well as his disciples would be dying out and could no longer weed them out. Still here today and plentiful from being unopposed.

What that means is today, they are the false religions oif Christendom, not TRUE Christians. All yelling, "Jesus! Jesus!". They do many things all in Jesus' name. Hospitals, schools, shelters, all having their names all over the buildings. Yet that is not what God's nor Jesus' wills are now. That is why Jesus denies knowing them at Matt. 7:21-23. A human being with huge power, maybe a world leader, but it will take a long time! First, the world has to be one state, then there has to be a power shift from politics to religion. In other words, this world state(govt.) must be led by a religious figure(religious dictature). Then, the third temple must be built. Then the idea of these religious leaders abilities to perform miracles must be widely accepted. There has to be a nuclear war. All evolved countries must fall to their knees to make way for this new super-power, raised by the new religion. Men will worship this figure as a hero. The Bible states he will lead the world armies to battle. Against who? Those who oppose this system. The Bible states people will seek death, but won't be able to die. There has to be an anti-aging technology, something to prevent the DNA from degrading and therefore assuring ever lasting physical life. Such technology must be the norm and all new born must receive it(or be designed with it). The humans there will not know suffering or disease, or aging. The beast's mark: could be a system(chip-like) that can grant the bearer access to resources, to cities, opening magnetically sealed doors, acceptance as a citizen. For such a system to work, there has to be a new system, one in which money will not exist. The notions of buying and selling must not exist. This new futuristic empire with a religious leader shall reward its subjects, those who accept the mark with access to resources and rights(food, clothes, etc.) The others will not be considered citizens, will not have access to its resources. They are the righteous this leader will seek to eradicate. The talking beast is a hologram. There has to be a system where TV's will no longer exist, and holograms must replace them. But they are holograms that can kill. Interactive.

Thank God for His written Word. He does not leave us in the dark, but we are not to be concerned with that abomination that has already reared it's ugly head (little antichrist). Jesus left specific instructions to His disciples in Luke 24:44-49. Jesus reminds the disciples of all the things that will occur during and before His coming. The many things that He would suffer, but that He would die and rise again on the third day. Ours is to let the world know about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for salvation to all that believe.

We do not have to be afraid of future events, or guess/tell who they are because Jesus said that He would be with us, even til the ends of the earth. I completely trust the Lord for my strength and my salvation.

Perhaps the single biggest trap we keep falling into with claims about what prophecies will turn out to be, is that stated in Daniel chapter 12. He was told of a time of terrible distress, unprecedented in all the history of the world, but the Jewish people being delivered, the resurrection of the dead and the wise shining and leading many to righteousness. Then Daniel is told to seal up the prophetic scroll "until the time of the end". Now, here is the bit that causes us all the trouble regarding claims of interpretation:

"None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand."

In our pride and arrogance, we just keep falling into this trap of thinking, "We are not wicked! We are wise! We will understand!" And so we have suffered a whole catalogue of false interpretations that claim to explain what such end-time prophecies will turn out to be. This was happening even in the 18th century, when the rise of Napoleon in Europe caused many to claim that he was fulfilling prophecies both in Daniel and Revelation. Some even calculated dates based upon his conquest of Rome and the way he humiliated the pope. I have a massive tome written in the early 1900s, making such claims and offering a thousand more ideas about how Jesus must have returned invisibly in the 1840s, based upon such interpretations. Time has shown the utter foolishness of such written claims.

It is the same today. Will we never learn? The latest technology that arises is hailed to be the one that will cause the mark of the beast - and then when time passes and expectations do not work out, another new technology is held up as being 'the one'. It is not technology. It is spiritual.

Ever since a former Muslim who converted to Christianity explained something he had noticed in Revelation, about the mark of the beast, I have decided that it will be akin to what the early Christians had to stand up to, by refusing to burn a pinch of incense at the altar of Caesar, to acclaim him as a god; it will be a sign of worshipping a false god, which the whole world will be expected to do, otherwise they will not be able to function in society and will likely die as a result. There already is a 'mark' or sign of false worship going on, all over the world, and increasingly so. It is heard by verbal claims on our television sets and computers, and seen by the headbands and armbands worn by the activists when they group in public. And, as this religion sweeps ever-onwards in its drive to conquer the world and force everyone to submit to its god, all Christians will have to refuse to utter the verbal words of allegiance, and to refuse to wear the identifying garb seen on headbands and armbands.

I have sometimes explained this in other answers, but I am not going to go on about it here, even though the explanation accounts for why this view could not possibly have been understood for hundreds of years after Revelation was written, and why the scribes who copied John's original scroll would have made copies that - ever since - have been misunderstood to be the Greek words that are translated into English as six hundred and sixty-six. Only now, in this generation, can an alternative understanding be possible. If this generation is the one due to see Daniel's unprecedented time of trouble, then those who are concerned to lead many to righteousness will grasp the meaning. It will become clear. Meantime, we must work while it is still day, to be guided by the Holy Spirit to help lead many to righteousness. He will give us the understanding of Revelation as the still-future aspects begin to happen.

The present pope being so charismatic pretending to love Isreal, but showing in his actions different, and trying to bring Israel and Palestine together and already has a seat where the Lord is suppose to have held His last supper.as he pretends to come and introduce peace in the middle east region.

Thing is these are real human people or human beings who will be possessed by Satan, in order to do his bidding.

Hence the reason, this cannot be something that any human being can predict.

2 Thessalonians 2 v2ff:"That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

V3:"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, Except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

V4:"Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."

If you pay close attention to the words used, "except he is revealed," this revelation has to be done by God himself, under whose control, even the Anti-Christ comes under.

"Falling away" (Gr.apostasia) is the great and final apostasy or repudiation of the Christian faith that will occur at the appearance of the "son of perdition" (the Antichrist) (1 Tim. 4:1-5; 2 Tim. 3:1-5).

"Man of sin" (some bibles read "man of lawlessness"): This is the beast out of the sea (Rev. 13:1), the little horn (Dan. 7:8), and the false Christ who will aim to rule the world (Rev. 13: 15-17). This is the Antichrist.

2:4:"Sitteth in the temple of God" parallels the "abomination of desolation" (Matt: 24:15; Dan.9:27; 11:31; 12:11). When the Antichrist desecrates the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem, he will usurp worship for himself.

2Thessalonians 2v6:"And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

V7:"For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

V8:"And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

V9:"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and lying wonders,

V10:"And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

V11:"And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

V12:"That they may be all damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

The Restrainer may be the Holy Spirit, who will restrain sin throughout the church age until "He be taken out of the way," that is, until His restraining influence is removed.

This will occur at the Rapture of the church.

2v8:""Then shall that Wicked be revealed" (literally, "Then shall that lawless one be revealed"); Paul argues that the day of the Lord simply does not begin until the restraint by the Holy Spirit is removed, and the Antichrist is revealed.

Since none of this had occurred, the day of the Lord had not yet come.
