why would a gfi outlet not work were a normal outlet was already?

    1. All connections are tight.

    2. Power is on.

    3. The reset is in not the test.

    4. All the wiring is correct, line side not the load side of the device.

    5. All ground faults are cleared. If this does not have the device operating then the device may be faulty.

    Make sure it's wired to the line side screws, not the load side, or it's got a faulty trip switch. That happened to me once, the outlet was bad, yet brand new out of the box.

    Make sure it's wired correctly and that you have presses the reset button once power is on.
